The alien abduction
that allegedly took place on the night of January 25, 1967, in Betty
Andreasson Luca's
Massachusetts home is different from most other
extraterrestrial
abductions in that it was not only witnessed by the abductee’s entire
family it also had a religious twist. (Apparently the aliens were either Christian or
shared Christian-like beliefs.)
At
around 6:30 p.m. following a brief power outage, a reddish beam of
light shone
through a kitchen window illuminating the room in which Betty was
working. Startled by the light and in search of its
source, Betty’s father entered and parting the curtains peered out the
widow. Shocked he watched five diminutive beings approach the house
and upon reaching the door walk through it. Once inside, the
creatures placed Betty’s father along with her mother and her seven
children who were relaxing in the living room into a trancelike state.
While
the aliens examined the humans, Betty unafraid calmly examined
the aliens; short with bulbous heads, wide eyes, a slit of a mouth and
three fingered hands they were dressed in a blue uniform with birdlike
insignias on their sleeves and appeared to be levitating.
Four
of them escorted the bemused housewife aboard their vessel while one
alien remained with her family. Once onboard she was subjected to an
operation in which an item (a tracking device?) that had been
implanted during an earlier encounter was removed. [1]
Betty
(a Christian fundamentalist) states she believed the beings to have
been angels and that they telepathically communicated their shared
love for Jesus Christ intimating that he would be returning soon to
save humanity from an approaching apocalypse. It seems that there was
also a meeting with some mysterious being which she called “The One”
who imparted some great secret.
Following this meeting she was
apparently returned to her family and everyone herself included was
subjected to some sort of memory wipe, the entire episode remaining a
blank until she was subjected to regressive hypnosis by the
hypnotist/member of an investigative team assigned by noted professor,
astronomer, ufologist and founder of the Center for UFO Studies (CUFOS)
Dr.
J. Allen
Hynek. Other members of the team apparently included a physicist, two
engineers, a telecommunications specialist and a psychiatrist. The
investigation continued for over a year and included both
background checks and polygraph (lie detector) tests.
The general consensus
of the investigation was that both Betty and her daughter Becky
[2] sincerely believed themselves to have been abducted by space
aliens. As
for what other family members believed, her father has since passed on,
her ex-husband has disappeared and her two sons have died in an
automobile accident; remaining family members who were part of the
"Incident" are apparently vague on the subject.
Subsequent
to the abduction becoming public knowledge there was a publicity tour
which included news, radio and television interviews, along with
lectures and book signings to publicize “The Andreasson Affair” by
author, researcher, hypnotist and investigative team member Raymond
Fowler, who at some point during the investigation came to believe that
he too was abducted by extraterrestrials.
Betty has since re-married, her present husband Bob Luca is
also a purported abductee.
[1] Betty apparently has memories of other extraterrestrial encounters
(some
revealed under
hypnosis), the earliest in 1944.
[2]
Becky has memories of alien abductions of her own, some which occurred
before and some that occurred after her mother’s alleged 1967
abduction.
